A conference will be held in the framework of the Visegrad Four (V4) research project "Algorithms used in the field of criminal sciences" at ELTE Faculty of Law.

The use of algorithms and artificial intelligence is now present in almost all aspects of everyday life. As far as criminal law is concerned, in the investigative phase of criminal proceedings, AI can be used to identify the identity of the persons to be prosecuted, i.e. profiling. Artificial intelligence, which can be used to assess evidence, can provide effective assistance to the judge deciding on criminal liability in the judicial phase, e.g. which evidence, the probability of guilt and the sanction that can achieve the objective of the sentence (protection of society through general and specific prevention). The use of algorithmic tools could make a positive difference in the context of the release of convicted persons on parole. Our project examines whether the mentioned tools can be applied in the legal systems of continental countries.
