Students of ELTE among the best of the world

The Philip C. Jessup Moot Court is the most well-known moot court of the world with more than 600 participating teams every year. In 2014, 126 teams were qualified for the international rounds in Washington, including the delegation of the Faculty of Law, ELTE. The team of ELTE (Judit Haraszti, Máté Csernus, Dániel Máté and Dávid Surjányi) obtained the 15th place in the duel of lawyers. The coach of the team has been Gábor Kajtár, the professor of the Department of Public International Law.

The team members have worked intensely on the case since October, they had to prepare the memorials already before the oral rounds, until January. Law students competed before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) between 6 and 12 April. The venue of the event has been the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington. Having won all the four battles, the Hungarian team qualified for the best 32 teams of the world as 15th.

Dávid Surjányi obtained 3rd place in the ranking of oralists that is an unprecedented result in the domestic history of the competition. David was overtaken by a Canadian-Australian and an American competitor: this means that the student of ELTE became first in Europe and among non-native English speakers.
