ELTE Faculty of Law invites proposals for a conference on the role of judicial precedent in legal systems traditionally based on codified law.
Taking Hungary’s limited precedent system as a starting point, the conference will explore the authority of judicial decisions, the relationship between precedent and legislation, and how courts can maintain consistency while allowing the law to develop. Comparative perspectives are especially welcome.
The conference will feature presentations by Rodrigo Becker (Rio de Janeiro State University), Thomas Adams (University of Oxford), and Hafsteinn Dan Kristjánsson (Reykjavík University).
We invite abstracts of no more than 250 words for proposed presentations. Please email your abstract to gardos.peter@ajk.elte.hu by 15 November 2026. Applicants will be notified of the university’s decision by 15 December 2026.
We warmly welcome speakers from outside Hungary. Unfortunately, we are unable to cover travel or accommodation costs.
