Main research areas
My research covers many areas of political communication research, but my primary focus is on the political role of social media. In this context, I analyse the strategic use of social media by political actors and its effects on voters, the viralisation of politics, and the behaviour of new communication actors on social media. I also address the role and functioning of the media in politics.
My research focuses on the patterns and effects of political information consumption and the importance of political efficacy. First, I examine how the nature of information consumption about politics has changed in recent years, focusing specifically on the role of social media, and what individual-level effects different ways of obtaining information about politics have on political attitudes and behaviour.Second, I investigate the factors that determine people's belief in their own political potential and the role of this belief in the development of populist attitudes.
