The Faculty of Law of the ELTE Eötvös Loránd University is the leading institution in research on law and political sciences in Hungary and is among the most significant law faculties in the region. Research activities at the Faculty cover a wide range of areas of law, and are often conducted with an inter- and transdisciplinary approach. The Faculty is committed to strengthen its international visibility through high-quality publications, organisation of academic events and participation in international research projects to advance in the major international rankings.
Academic events and international partnerships
The Faculty often hosts international and domestic academic events providing a unique platform in Hungary to stimulate academic debate, to discuss topics of interest for a larger public, and increase social impact. Beyond the cooperation in relation to research grants, the Faculty is involved in various international partnerships for research, such as the Legal Research Network, the Rotterdam Law Network, Charm-EU. The Faculty is institutional member of several international professional organisations, including the European Law Institute (ELI) and the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR).
Publications
Monographs, edited volumes and articles of our researchers are also often published by internationally renowned publishers. Moreover, the Faculty supports the publishing of high-quality academic works that enable the wide dissemination of our research outcomes.
The Faculty’s flagship journal is the English-language ELTE Law Journal that welcomes submissions with a comparative approach and articles exploring legal issues from the perspective of European law and/or international law. The other foreign-language journal of the Faculty, Annales provides a forum for publications on current legal developments in various languages, including English, German and French.
The volumes of the ELTE Law Faculty Book Series reflects the diversity of legal research conducted at our institution. The book series includes not only books in Hungarian, but also in English language.
Research grants and projects
Several research projects are implemented at the Faculty with the support of the EU (Horizon Europe, Jean Monnet, COST, CERV), regional (Visegrad Fund) and national research grants. The Faculty applies for research funding either as consortium leader or partner, and is open to enquiries from potential partners regarding joint applications for research grants.
